Pope Leo's Message for Ecumenism this week
"In the year 325, bishops from across the known world gathered in Nicaea. In affirming the divinity of Jesus Christ, they formulated our creedal statements that he is “true God from true God” and “consubstantial (homoousios) with the Father.” Thus, they articulated the faith that continues to ...

Re: The firing of three professors
I don't think it's out of line to say that they questioned his orthodoxy at times. Which the Distorter still can't complain about because they are firmly in "it's okay to deny Church teaching" camp. What? Francis is the only Pope no one can legitimately dissent from? According to their wi...

Years ago my Spiritual Director advised not to give the devil too much attention in such ways. He is full of designs to outwit you. Focus on forgiving the living and yourself.

Re: St John Henry Newman set to become newest Doctor of the Church
My view is that Francis was no less important that all the other Popes. Not that he is more special. It’s just the reality that if we fail to embrace the teaching authority of any Pope we fail to be ready for the next Pope who teaches in continuity. There seems to be many people thinking that the n...

Re: St John Henry Newman set to become newest Doctor of the Church
When men advocate the rights of conscience, they in no sense mean the rights of the Creator, nor the duty to Him, in thought and deed, of the creature; but the right of thinking, speaking, writing, and acting, according to their judgment or their humour, without any thought of God at all. They do n...

Re: St John Henry Newman set to become newest Doctor of the Church
It will be a good opportunity to highlight those principles of development of doctrine and primacy of conscience in regards to the teachings of Pope Francis. For example the reform on Capital Punishment and the pastoral documents AL and FS which some Catholics struggle with.

Re: Mass Mass Dispensation
I continue to struggle with this issue. So -- if a fear is generated if I go to Mass, then I may excuse myself. If I am afraid that driving exposes me to danger, that rain or snow might cause me to slip and fall, that a getting up on Sunday morning might result in an unhealthy result due to a lack ...

Re: Mass Mass Dispensation
My understanding is that fear of arrest and deportation would qualify as a grave reason, and hence the person does not have an obligation to risk himself by attending Mass, even without the Bishop declaring so. Am I correct in thinking so? If a person is unwell or finds themself unable to attend Ma...

Specifically, is 'the swamp being drained'? If so, in what ways? Yes, but I guess if you have to ask that question, you probably wouldn't either understand or believe the answer. You're liberal, and most of us here are not. He's removed a lot of unwanted baggage, and that's a good thing economicall...

Re: Mass Mass Dispensation
Sorta regret I started all this. HST, let me react. I noted that the Bishop of San Bernadino issued a decree dispensing parishioners from their Sunday Mass obligation if they have a "genuine fear of immigration enforcement actions". I understand that the Diocese of Nashville issued a simi...

Even the Vatican has imposed stiff fines and penalties for anyone who enters illegally. What's good for the goose, is good for the gander. If people enter with nefarious motives then rightly so but the Vatican has provided refuge such as for some Syrians in 2016. Francis also established shelters w...

Re: Mass Mass Dispensation
The main point is that all civil authorities listed were enacting an unjust, inhumane law and the Church has a canon law response regarding unjust laws. Do you lock your door at night? If you came home and found several people had broken into your home and were claiming that they now lived there an...

Re: Mass Mass Dispensation
So -- San Bernardino Bishop Alberto Rojas has excused Catholics from attending Sunday mass due to immigration raids and detentions. Is this akin to excusing, say, burglers from attending Mass due to fear of being arrested by local police? I don't get it. Is this politics or is this a position of th...
