Re: Trump 2.0
for Trump to bring the U.S. into a major new war in the Middle East would be contrary to his own longstanding rhetoric... But then, contradictory and reckless statements are par for the course with Trump. For example, Trump has portrayed himself as pro-life, but then came out in support of keeping ...

I'm with Fr Gabriel, Cardinal Pizzaballa and Pope Leo on this. May God protect Palestinian Christians.

Re: Mass Mass Dispensation
I think you misunderstood. I was not suggesting the Bishop had the authority to regularize the status of people who are not here legally. I said if those who are in danger of being arrested and deported wanted to find relief from their fears they would be better off dealing with the reality of the ...

The firing of three professors
As many readers will have heard by now, last week Detroit’s new archbishop Edward Weisenburger suddenly fired three well-known professors at Sacred Heart Major Seminary: theologians Ralph Martin and Eduardo Echeverria and canon lawyer Edward Peters. https://edwardfeser.blogspot.com/2025/07/sufferin...

Re: Mass Mass Dispensation
The Bishop does not control immigration policy, naturalization, or deportation; it is not within his power to give 'true relief" to the entire situation. He does have the powers vested by canon law and is the moderator of the Liturgy. Given that the Church recognizes at least some grave situati...

Re: CORPUS Disbands Liberal Catholicism is Dying
We had a supreme court case last decade that decriminalzed homosexuality and had generally progressive content. We had another supreme court case this year, however, which declined to start gay marriage, saying it's the job of the legislature. The phenomenon I refer to seems to be primarily driven b...

Re: CORPUS Disbands Liberal Catholicism is Dying
This is true of American liberals in general which is why they have hijacked public school systems - to indoctrinate other people's children since they have so few of their own. Ironically, since the lockdown (where people spent too much time online), the influence of Western-style liberalism has b...
Re: Trump 2.0
Much too broad a question. Suffice it to say that since the 1830s, the Catholic vote was overwhelmingly Democratic. Beginning in the late 60's, the Catholic vote has been moving away from the Democratic party to the Republicans. In 2024, Trump won the Republican vote by nearly 30 points, the larges...
Trump 2.0
I open this thread because I'm sure people might have a lot of things to say, but the this section seems to have so far only extremely specific questions. As Americans (mostly), what do you feel about the second Trump administration overall - domestic policy, foreign policy, economic policy, appoint...

Re: Mass Mass Dispensation
My understanding is that fear of arrest and deportation would qualify as a grave reason, and hence the person does not have an obligation to risk himself by attending Mass, even without the Bishop declaring so.
Am I correct in thinking so?

At this point I'm hoping a third party candidate will split the Democratic vote, and a Republican will get elected. Not a realistic scenario. The only possible way to beat him is for all third-party candidates, and Republican Curtis Silwa, to drop out and endorse Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo is corrupt, a l...

Denial of dogmatic fact is called?
Well sure but the validity of an ecumenical council is a dogmatic fact, not dogma, so to deny it isn't heresy. There are lots of things that are wrong but which nevertheless don't rise to the level of heresy (which is a very high bar, actually). https://stilldcf.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=631 cc: p...
