Re: A Book, Or Books, About The Popes

Eamon Duffy's "Ten Popes Who Shook the World". I read it shortly after reverting back to the faith and was a bit bothered by it. I don't want to say he was critical of the Church's claim of an unbroken line since St. Peter... but there were comments here and there which shook my fledging ...

Re: A Book, Or Books, About The Popes

That book is not very accurate though, it perpetuates the myth of the "Papal Oath", which was supposedly said by every Pope for more than 1,000 years until John Paul I refused to say it (or in some versions of the legend, Paul VI or John XXIII were the first to omit it), yet the "oat...

He's a naturalized citizen of Peru so I would not say that he's "Peruvian-American"

Re: Washington State Passes Law Against the Seal of the Confessional

He's Catholic. Also, note that a majority of both houses voted in favor. More grandstanding. But the real culprit is the Attorney General an angry former Catholic with an axe to grind. She spen 4 years pushing for this law, she has also been pushing a law to force churches to perform gay marriages....

Speaking only for myself (I do have at least one trans relative, though I don't really have any contact with him) I would use the name under which they identify but not the pronouns since the latter is a lie.

Deacon Arky wrote: Mon Apr 14, 2025 8:32 am Not sure what you mean by "Old Confessional"??
Perhaps with a fixed grate and kneeler, maybe a sliding door so the priest can hear confessions from either side? As opposed to a "reconciliation room"

Re: This is controversial, but it needs to be said

Our rose set is old (100+ years) and is definitely pink but with a slight orange cast (to my eyes at least). But we have a rose cope and matching altar frontal that are newer and fall into the dusky rose category.

All that said most of the "rose" vestments you will see in the USA on Laetare Sunday or Gaudete Sunday can definitely be described as pink.

Re: This is controversial, but it needs to be said

I do think English differentiates between the two (but there are overlapping shades) - I think what most people think of as "rose" has a bit of blue or purple in it, while pink doesn't. So you have e.g. dusky rose, which isn't really pink; and "pepto-bismol pink" which isn't real...

Re: This is controversial, but it needs to be said

"Rose" is classified as a "shade of pink", the vestments are accurately described as "pink" Well, rose isn't just a shade of pink but rose and pink do have overlapping shades. But there are some "rose" vestments that really aren't pink as we understand the wo...

I've been to many Masses at which the Kyrie was skipped after the Confiteor so it seems to be a somewhat widespread practice.

The important thing to remember is that there is no such thing as marriage between two people of the same sex since they're incapable of exchanging marriage rights.

Re: Thw Confiteir

If the confeteor is used the kyrie is still supposed to be used but it is slightly shorter - just simply Lord have mercy R/Lord have mercy etc. with no petition in between.
Fixed that for you :crying:

Well if you say the Confiteor you're still supposed to say the Kyrie (even though some don't).
I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen both done, it is one or the other.
You would think so but the rubrics say otherwise
