Re: Why waste money on a mouse pad.

It depends on the surface. Some optical mice don't work well, depending on reflectivity of the surface and other things I haven't figured out yet. Sometimes also the surface can be hard to move a mouse on, and a mouse pad can help that too.

Re: Australia's Social Media Ban

I have also been informed that the parents of today's students are a generation that grew up with cell phones. In general, they see no issue with having constant access to a phone. In fact, they champion access since "I may need to text my child." On the question of possession the mantra ...

Re: Australia's Social Media Ban

One of the functions of law--one of its primary functions--is to make it easier for good people to live good lives. It turns out that parents need help in raising kids in our media-soaked society. I don't see this as the government taking over for parents. I see it as government giving parents an as...

Re: Vigil mass before Holy Day (Immaculate Conception)

Church law says that you have to attend Mass in a given time frame. It says nothing about what the prayers and readings have to be. So a Mass on Sunday evening would satisfy the obligation for the Immaculate Conception no matter what the prayers and readings are.

Most (if not all) dying orders--male and female both--are dying of self-inflicted wounds.

Re: Mary: Immaculately conceived or The Immaculate Conception?

It is important to understand that Hebrew does not have superlatives, "good, better, best," etc, so when they wanted to say that someone was the best, or the greatest, or whatnot, they would say "blank is blank among the blanks". For example, they couldn't say "Tom Brady is...

Re: Replacement Theology

My understanding of the current status: The Old Covenant is not salvific, but the Jews remain God's chosen people in a way that the rest of us are not.

She may well be dealing with ADD. Don't expect her to focus on anything for a long time, and don't think that calling her out will help. Go in bite-sized doses.

It's probably connected to the fast from midnight, if I had to guess.

It was also forbidden to celebrate Mass after noon.
