As an undergraduate, he majored in math.... :troll So he knows both sin and cos I don't think I'm going off on a tangent with this, and Major League Baseball seems to be enjoying the unexpected publicity: The new pope was at the 2005 World Series. Don't know if I can buy that angle.

Re: On New Popes and the Non-Catholic Elites

Just noted a call for the Pope to denounce the President's immigration actions. That call is not the point; the point is the expectation that the Pope should become involved in US domestic politics ... progressively.

He's a naturalized citizen of Peru so I would not say that he's "Peruvian-American"

Didn't see that coming. An American Pope with a Peruvian diocese with a "traditional" name. Is he gonna be Francis II or something else?

As some have said, we'll find out.

Re: Non-binding Resolution?

Compiled largely, as I recall, by the CBO. I thought that the CBO was responsible for estimates to the bill that the House submits, but that it still needs a bill introduced for them to provide that estimate. Again, as I recall, that is the theory. The practice is that the CBO is a bureaucracy that...

On New Popes and the Non-Catholic Elites

Over my life, I have noted that when a new Pope is elected a bevy of non-Catholics, lapsed Catholics, pseudo Catholics, and such appear and begin dctating what short of Pope the Church must elect. Their criteria are almost exclusively secular, political, and demanding. The phenomenon extends beyond ...

Re: Trump & Zelensky?

If Ukraine were to sign the mineral deal without security guarantees from the US, the likelihood that Russia will abide by any ceasefire agreement is very low based on how it has ignored past agreements. Would we all agree on that point? Not necessarily. There is a major difference if Russia attemp...

Don't think that the resolution has any connection (except as a proclamation of a position) to the actual budget process.

Structuring the issue seems simple. Set up the good ol' 2x2 matrix. Label the axes Catholic/Not Catholic and Qualified/Not Qualified -- giving you four cells: Catholic/Qualified Catholic/Not qualified Non Catholic/Qualified Not Catholic/Not Qualified Ask yourself which characteristic trumps. If bein...

... I wonder if it would be possible to hand out Bibles now at public school? Only if you wanted a major contretemps. And, perhaps, an arrest. I spent much of elementary school in an LDS community. Where church, state, and school were one. The LDS religion was not pushed, but it was always present ...

Re: Churches hiding criminal aliens in churches at night

IMO, the role and position of religion, denominations, and the religious vis-a-vis immigration is a complex and layered matter. For me, the most offensive position is for one of the religious to maintain they that can commit a felony without consequence ... a common radical left entitlement. If one ...
