Sleep and Sunday obligation

Post by Jack3 »

If I go to mass on Sunday, I won't get sleep commensurate to my daily activity. I can make it, but I'll be sleepy during training. Does that excuse me from the obligation?

No, hypothetically, if, through no fault of your own, you accidentally sleep in too late to attend, that would be one thing. But if you are planning on missing Mass, that is a bigger problem. It seems to me your options are to attend Saturday evening, try to get to bed earlier, or try to go back to sleep after Mass.

If this is something that is going to be a pattern, you can always go to your priest and ask for a dispensation. He might have other advice too.

True, I assumed it was a one time issu, if it is going to be ongoing he will need advice from someone with more authority and familiarity with the situation
