The Venezuela Situation

Post by Stella »

I'm far removed from what has happened but have been trying to gauge where people around the globe stand on the military ousting of Madura.

In December Pope Leo urged the US not to take the route it eventually did, mentioning sovereignty and the rule of law.

The concern is how Russia and China will perceive this action and may be emboldened to do the same.

Edmundo Gonzalez overwhelmingly won the election. Maduro ignored that fact. He was the one not following the rule of law.

As to what Russia or China might do...they may very well be shaking in their boots.

I am becoming peeved with acquaintances rushing up to me spitting and sputtering about whatever has happened and ranting about Trump being at fault. By now, they ought to have figured our that I am more conservative than they are, that I have issues with Trump, and that I don't want to hear another breathless excoriation of whatever it is .... whether or not it has merit.

Venezuela is, like all real world things, complicated and risky and with a significant upside if it goes well. All in all, the US struck at the head of a narco-state that is doing great harm to the US and its allies and which is a danger within South America and around the world. Something needed doing; let's see if this was it.

IMHO, the Pope calling for Venezuela to remain independent is an prime example of a strawman. Next, I suppose, someone will call for Antarctica to remain in the Southern Hemisphere.

I just found out that there was a delegation from China in Venezuela meeting with Maduro. Don't just take him out, let's do it in front of the Chinese. :siggy

I think that answers whether or not, they would think twice before doing anything.

"When a true genius appears in the world, you will know him by this sign, that all the dunces are in confederacy against him," Jonahthan Swift

The Democrats
Russia
China
Iran

That is quite a confederacy of dunces that has ariesn to oppose Trump

In the meantime in Venenzula, they have already renamed buildings and streets in honor of Donald Trump
If you ever feel like Captain Picard yelling about how many lights there are, it is probably time to leave the thread.

I am not up to the second on what is happening down in that other continent, but the Chavistas have a large and entrenched apparatus which I doubt will go quietly into the night. That apparatus includes the military, los cárteles, the agencies of government, including the police, and paid demonstrators (probably the only place in the hemisphere with them). It is not going to be a walkover ... as the US seems to believe every time we get involved in deposing anybody.

Like some assume with Tim Walz announcing that he will not run for again as Governor of MN that a new dawn is coming There are a plethora of others invested into the benefits of the top to bottom fraud that permeates that progressive governance.
