Happy news

Post by Obi-Wan Kenobi »

On Friday, I was received into the Priestly Fraternity of St. Dominic (once known as Third Order Dominicans). This is an organization for diocesan (secular) priests who have an affinity for Dominican spirituality and want to join with the Order while remaining diocesan priests. I've had a Dominican heart for years and am excited to be able to live it out more fully.

I remain a priest of my diocese, subject to my diocesan bishop and in my current assignment (until he moves me!) But I hope that the graces I receive through this will help me to be more effective in preaching and teaching for the benefit of the people the Lord has put into my care.

ETA: my name in the Fraternity is Philip Neri.

That is happy news indeed! Will you learn the Dominican Rite?
Thank you for your patience as I build the board. I have about 1/16 to go.

I'm not planning on it. I think I could, but as I understand it, I can't celebrate it publicly. I could be wrong on that.

Congratulations Father, this is very happy news indeed.

The Dominicans just got that much stronger and you got that much closer to the Lord you obviously love.

I hope this adventure we call life is filled with ever strengthening hope faith and love in your many days as a Dominican yet to come.

Do you get a dog as part of the package or must you source your own?

I think only First and Second Orders are given the dog.

Happy trails on your joyful journey, Fr. I've always had a Jesuit heart but a good friend of mine leans Dominican spirituality and I admire her life's works very much. 🙏

I love love LOVE my Dominicans! I've been blessed to be a member of a parish run by the Order of Preachers since we moved back to Houston seven years ago. My exposure to them began as a child in Galveston, then throughout my undergraduate years at the University of Houston.

I'm happy to hear of your extra layer of training. I know Our Lady will cover you with her mantle.
