As Tom Wolfe wrote in his 2000 essay, “In the Land of the Rococo Marxists,” “An intellectual is a person knowledgeable in one field who speaks out only in others.”

That is so, so, so, ...... so good.

Tom Wolfe was brilliant; he was more or less conservative and made many contributions, including coining the term "radical chic" to describe the tendency of wealthy elites to try to "prove their authenticity" by supporting extreme leftist movements, even, or maybe especially, when the radical movement in question would likely slit the throat of the wealthy patron. And he coined the term "me decade" to describe the 70s.

One interesting fact is that, as far as I know, Wolfe is the only author to have a non-fiction book ("The Right Stuff") and a book of fiction ("The Bonfire of the Vanities") adapted into a movie.

Whew! I've gotta save this for later.

I love his non-fiction stuff. I hated the one fiction work I read - A Man in Full.

What Riverboat said.

I just started my day at work and looked at the beginning of the article.... yeah, this is good. I'll have to come back to it later today.
Thanks for sharing.
