Truth -- A Poor Refuge

Post by Highlander »

Without addressing theology, Bernard Randall, an ordained Church of England minister, has apparently been "reinstated" after being cast into the wilderness for seven years. What I find interesting is his comment:
... deeply troubled by the Church of England’s handling of his case, noting that officials spent years disciplining him for teaching orthodox church doctrine.
My underlining.

I find this example reveals a thread (no, a flood) common in anti-Western activity now characterizing the West -- that the truth is no defense. That thread, I hold, is now triumphant in certain political bodies, in various bureaucracies, in various religious bodies, in education from Pre-K to PhD, in media, in the legal system (family court, in particular), in personal relations, and the arts.
There Can Be Only One.

That sounds an awful lot like O'Sullivan's Law: "Any organization that is not explicitly conservative eventually becomes liberal". (It is also known as Conquest's Second Law: "Any Organization Not Explicitly Right Wing Will Eventually Become Left Wing."

To take it out of political terms into religious terms: "Any Church that shows the least tolerance for Modernism will soon become completely Modernist"

And all printed in National Review. My gratitude for William F. Buckley for founding this magazine is boundless.

Have you read the recent biography of Buckley? Published in 2025 on what would have been his 100th birthday.

Was it Buckley: The Rise of Conservatism by Carl Bogus? If so, I distinctly remember being disappointed. I thought I had saved a review I wrote, but it's not at hand.
