Kansas City gun law conundrum

In a city where it's quite easy to purchase and carry a weapon, if the theory were to work well, yes there will be criminal gun use as in the recent shooting incident, but there should also be a decent number of legal carrying and use of guns to immobilise that criminal at any given open space. That's what needs to be talked about in my opinion. The theory and justification for open carry never seems to materialise in reality.

I can't help but notice that there has been absolutely no call for gun control in response to the transgender person who shot up a church. Why it is almost as though the gun control people don't really have a problem with this particular mass shooting.

:fyi: The claim that the church shooter was trans turned out to be a conspiracy theory. It's now proven she's always identified as female and is the biological mother of the child that was with her.

it doesn't even matter, it is clear they have no real problem with someone shooting up a church, I've even heard people say 'if we are going to have mass shootings, this is the kind of mass shooting we should have", it's nearly a universal sentiment among that crowd.

Correct. The political types who want gun control tend to hate Christians.

Not true. Even the USCCB has called for tighter controls.

Clearly the USCCB does not believe in the human right of self-defense - which the Church has taught for centuries.

What tighter controls could you imagine will stop criminals from getting guns???!?? They aren't following gun laws anyway so why would they follow any others? Sometimes, I think everyone ought to openly carry...

I would think a minimum measure would be to legislate mandatory safe gun storage with penalties attached. For example Australian States mandate this measure to this length,,,

What are the legislative safe storage requirements for Category A and B firearms?

Section 40 of the Firearms Act 1996 (the Act) provides mandatory minimum requirements for the safe keeping and
storage of firearms held under a Category A and B licence as follows:
• When any firearm is not actually being used or carried, it must be stored in a locked receptacle of a type approved
by the Commissioner of Police and that is constructed of hard wood or steel and not easily penetrable
• If the receptacle weighs less than 150 kilograms when empty, it must be fixed in order to prevent its easy removal
• The locks of such a receptacle must be of solid metal and be of a type approved by the Commissioner
• Any ammunition for the firearm must be stored in a locked container of a type approved by the Commissioner
Ammunition may be kept in the receptacle with the firearms, but must be kept in a separate locked container
within the receptacle
Failure to meet these requirements is a serious offence with a fine of $2200 or 12 months imprisonment, or both.

How do you think something like this will limit or restrict guns in the hands of criminals? Why do you think a criminal would choose to store his/her guns in such a way? Doesn't seem very workable to me.

You know what might have an impact? Among other things enforce the myriad gun laws that already exist.

How are criminals getting guns if not through stealing them?

seriously? Do you know how many guns there are out there? If you have enough $$, you can get anything you want. Guns are just one of those things.

Help me to understand.

This happens in all the blue cities.

For example, Chicago:

Cops are ordered to not arrest thugs by the politicians (assuming the police have not been defunded!)
If cops manage to arrest thugs, the thugs are released on zero bail and are out on the street within hours.
And the state's attorney is likely to drop the charges.
If the state's attorney manages to actually press charges, they press the smallest amount of charges or plea everything down to ridiculously less charges.
If the states' attorney actually manages to prosecute a case, the judges slap the charges down to the smallest charges.
If the judge manages to throw the book at a thug, the parole boards get the thugs out of prison quickly.

But none of this is a problem.

Only guns are blamed.

So we must punish law abiding citizens by taking away their right to keep and bear arms - because the government does not ENFORCE laws on the books that are already there.

I do not hate Christians, in fact, some of my best selves are Christians :wave
