When we visited the US, there were some iconic foods that we just didn't 'get' like Twinkies or those dry bready pretzels. The pizza's we tried were disappointing but..... the Reuben Sandwich we got in New York. Died and went to heaven.

What other sandwich fillings do you all love?

Sorry, but if you don't like NY pizza, or soft pretzels, we can't be friends

On a serious note, I love a Philly Cheesesteak, grilled cheese w/ bacon, fried chicken sandwich, Coney Island dog, and lobster roll.

And for Stella, only people in PA call it a hoagie. We in NY call it a hero. Other parts of the country call it a sub (short for submarine).

I don't know if we just got a bad pretzel but it needed some dipping sauce or soup to counter the dryness.

I'm loving all the filling ideas. When I saw hoagie my brain immediately went to cigars, but that is of course stogey. I used to love jalapeno's on everything but as I've gotten older I've lost a taste for them.

People in Philly put mustard on theirs. I never cared for mustard unless it's the sweet variety.

In my defense I got accused of Dunning Kruger syndrome for my efforts so I learnt my lesson and will stick to my slow lane!

Made myself the egg and olive filling sandwich for dinner tonight. Loved it! A new favourite!

I even added a little diced gherkin. It was so satisfying stabbing into the gherkin with my fork, I retrieved two and my fork stood up with such pride!

When I was in France I had a sandwich with egg salad, raw red onion, and bacon on a baguette. No way I would ever eat something like that in the U.S., but the quality of the bread was such that the whole thing tasted pretty good! Also French mayonnaise is superior to the American version.
