I'm not sure how much you know about the Qu'ran, but it is filled with vicious attacks on both Christians and Jews. It describes Christians and Jews as "the worst of people", and tells Muslims they can't be friends with anyone except other Muslims unless they do it dishonestly in a nation where
Islam is a minority religion, in which case it says Muslims should "smile in their face while cursing them inwardly". The Qu'ran has a special hatred for Jews, whom it describes as "the offspring of apes and pigs" and "the greatest enemies of Islam". Islam is the ultimate supremacist religion, for while it calls Christians and Jews "the worst of people" it calls Muslims "the best of people."
Now, this does not mean that every Muslim you encounter believes all of this. Islamic law forbids translating the Qu'uran, so since most Muslims don't know Arabic, they memorize passages from it and hear it read aloud in Mosques, but have no idea what any of it means. Thus, all entire religious knowledge that a Muslim has comes entirely from what he is told by his imam. If the Imam is tolerant and peaceful, he will teach and peaceful form of Islam. If however the imam actually knows and understands the Qu'ran, he will teach the violence and intolerance of the Qu'ran. So your Muslim coworker or neighbor who seems nice and friendly may very well be just as they seem. There are moderate Muslims but there is no such thing as moderate Islam.
Now, the question, why does Islamic law forbid translation of the Qu'ran and how is this fact to be reconciled with the wide availability of multiple English versions of the Qu'ran, including some made by Muslims?
The Qu'ran is, on the whole, a nonsense book. According to one estimate, approximately one out of every 5 verses is completely incoherent, literally, nobody knows what it means. And I don't mean it is hard to understand, I mean it is literal nonsense, the Qu'ran is filled with literally dozens of words that don't appear to be words at all.
The Qu'ran goes something like this"
See Dick
See Jane
See Spot
Run Spot run
qdwlhflai
Muslim clerics don't want ordinary Muslims reading the Qu'ran, or else they will realize that not is the book wrist slittingly dull, but it is largely meaningless and incoherent. This will shake their faith in Islam. The Qu'ran sounds beautiful when read aloud in Arabic provided you don't know Arabic.
So why the English translations? Well, the vast majority of them done by Muslims are written in pseudo King James Version English, or in a similar very obscure English style which is very difficult to read in an apparent attempt to discourage people from reading it. There are translations done in modern English done by secular scholars, but tend to contain notes pointing out how frequently the original Arabic seems to make no sense.

I was just pointing out how some Christians give Muslims, and the rest of the world, legitimate opportunities to mock the Christian faith. What happened at St. Patrick's in New York never should have happened. That "church" in Cincinnati is a laughing stock that deserves mocking! I guess I am beginning to understand why many Catholics want a return to tradition, a return to TLM, they are mortified by the lack of reverence in our parishes, the aping of our culture.

The mere fact that a Christian is a Christian is sufficient reason for Muslim attacks, they don't need further provocation, they regard all Christians as idolators and blasphemers for believing in the deity of Christ, which is, according to them, the greatest possible sin.

couldn't agree more with Doom on this point (which isn't normal!

). Islam is certainly no 'religion of peace' and mocking is not only clear in this case, it is required in every case.
