Re: HELP! Electric appliances failing...

Although if that dryer was just delivered by Lowe's, I'd actually say the first move would be to call Lowe's. gherkin 🤝 peregrinator Don't let Father see that. Actually, the clogged exhaust vent is one reason the thermal fuses will blow, so I also agree with you on checking that. It can be a pain.

Re: HELP! Electric appliances failing...

Dryer running but not heating up sounds like the thermal fuse. Of course, it is funny that this happened both with the old dryer and with the new one. That does raise the question of whether there's some kind of electrical issue that's causing your thermal fuses to blow. But I would say the first mo...

On another matter, why do I keep hearing that Trump's win was a landslide? It wasn't a landslide.

Re: OK, I'll start it

She was an incredibly bad candidate, and I don't pretend to be an astute analyst, but it does seem to me like the hardline left stand on, say, letting men play in girls sports or not having a border played into her loss. Maybe not. Maybe it was just that people recognized she was an empty suit.

Re: OK, I'll start it

Will it be Newsome? I'm no student of contemporary politics, but my impression is that he's at least as far left as Harris. Will any of the D's start to realize that the hard left wing of the D party is not popular? Or will they just keep blaming this loss on racism and sexism? If the latter, I can ...

Re: Liturgy: Rich or Restless?

Around here "full, active, conscious" participation in the Mass is commonly touted as calling for singing all the hymns (and it doesn't help that my wife loves to sing and doesn't understand why I don't always). But I do sing the mass settings, once I get the hang of the latest one. What ...

OK, I'll start it

Happy that Trump won, and happy that it seems to have been...well, I would definitely not say a landslide, but at least a solid victory, including a significant lead in the popular vote. I think this is obviously a good thing from the standpoint of national and international security (from a variety...

Re: Kamala Harris rejects religious exemptions to Abortion

Kamala Harris told NBC News yesterday that she does not believe in any religious exemption for abortion, in a Kamala Harris administration, will Catholic hospitals be required to perform abortions, perhaps at the risk of losing Medicare patients? It sure sounds like that is her intent if she is ser...

She can't even handle ostensibly friendly media like Anderson Cooper. True. But I wonder whether Doom is right to say that she's aware of this. I actually doubt it. I suspect she sincerely believes she's a masterful speaker. I don't think she really believes that. She's too quick to look for a cue ...

The Chosen Season 4

In general, I would say I like this season a little less than the previous ones. But it's still OK. I think we just watched episode 5 last night. It actually had a lovely conversation between our Lord and our Lady, where it was made clear that Mary fully understood Jesus's mission. I'm always a litt...

Re: What are you reading now?

Earlier, I mentioned watching the baddish Britbox version of Agatha Christie's Murder is Easy. We very recently made the inexplicable decision to watch a recent remake of her Ordeal by Innocence. I found it deeply objectionable right from the start, but mrs. gherkin prevailed on me to continue watch...

He has left a lot of that stuff behind in recent years. I've heard him speak at several conferences and that stuff just doesn't come up. He changed when he started teaching at the seminary in Pittsburgh, and also went to Rome as guest professor in Januarys. Don't remember when that was, but that's ...
