Looby Mission Trip to Honduras

Post by forumjunkie »

Hey everyone! A few months ago I asked for intense prayers and am able to share a bit about what is happening. My family has been discerning a call to a more radical life of service. My wife and I (and our 4 younger daughters) have been accepted to go serve about 15 months at "Finca del Niño" in Northern Honduras. It is a Catholic mission that takes in abandoned children and gives them education, companionship and medical care. They have a Catholic school and medical clinic that also serves families from the surrounding area. We (as in all of us) will teach and provide programming and religious education. It is a very simple lifestyle where you wash clothes by hand, take cold showers, and sort beans before boiling them over a fire stove for hours! But, we know that the joys will outweigh the struggles and we are so excited to get to work!

The only snag is getting there. We knew we would be giving up our jobs and income for a year, and once we get to mission, the cost of living for the year is very low. But, getting there is expensive. Flights, 8 weeks of required Spanish school in Guatemala, international health insurance, etc are all adding up. You all have been my prayer warriors before, so I am asking for your help again. If you could pray hard for us right now as we enter into our fundraising phase, that would be great. We really just want to serve and not be fundraising, but we know it is a necessary part of missionary life. If you could just pray for open hearts for the people we approach and that God opens doors for us, that would be much appreciated. And if you know of anyone or any groups that would be open to sponsoring a missionary family in Honduras PLEASE SHARE! We already have a couple of local KoC groups that are giving us some funding.

We incorporated Cumbre Family Missions Inc as a 501c3 so we can accept donations with all of the tax benefits for our donors. The website is www.cumbrefamilymissions.org You can also read about the Finca by going to their site www.farmofthechild.org

Thanks, again for any help and prayers you can give!

Woh!! Admin screening of posts is now off! Hope that post is allowed! Sorry admins if it isn't... feel free to remove! I didn't bother asking for permission because I thought you were screening posts anyway! Oops!

It's OK I would have said yes though I will confess to being slightly surprised you didn't ask first. :-D

I am taking people off the post moderation when I recognize them. :fyi:

May God bless your endeavor! It sounds like quite an undertaking for sure.
Thank you for your patience as I build the board. I have about 1/16 to go.
