Supreme Court Junior Justice

Post by Highlander »

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson is the junior justice on the Supreme Court. I have read portions of her recent agreement/dissent in several cases. I'm not a lawyer, but her comments seem to have little to nothing to do with the law and are blatantly ideological -- in the progressive, woke, leftist sense.
To date, I have been skeptical that some persons recently elevated in vocation or status and who are clearly leftist ideologues are "DEI" hires.

Jackson is a DEI hire.

She is unqualified for her position and ought to be removed, but that is something which has never happened and is pretty much impossible

"I just feel that I have a wonderful opportunity to tell people in my opinions how I feel about the issues, and that's what I try to do.'

Subsequent to my initial post I learned that Jackson said the above. It seems, then, that her standard for an opinion is how she feels, not what the lase says. It reinforces my conclusion that she is a DEI hire.

It is not just an opinion; Biden said he would appoint a black woman to the Supreme Court, and Jackson was the only possible option given his criteria. So it is simply a fact that she is a DEI hire.

This kind of reasoning for hiring people always results in a bad choice. Dwight Eisenhower made 3 Supreme Court picks, and he was unhappy with all 3. In his biography of Eisenhower, Stephen Ambrose explains why this was; he insisted on the demographics of all of his selections. He insisted on appointing someone from the same state as the outgoing justice, the same ethnicity (for example, if the outgoing justice was Italian, the new one had to be Italian), and the same religion as the outgoing justice. In each case, these restrictions resulted in only one possible appointee.
