NT Wright book

Worth asking you gaggle of nerds...

My pastor wants a copy of NT Wright's "The New Testament In Its World" (the text, not the workbook, I've accidentally purchased not one but TWO used copies ofthe workbook). Being a priest, paying the eleventy gillion dollars that it goes for is just too much.

Anyone here have a copy they'd be willing to part with for a small fee knowing it is going to a Pastor?

Isn't this a recently published book that can be found at any bookstore? I'm 99% certain I saw it in the "Religion" section at Barnes and Noble just last week.

And I know you're not the one who wants it but, NT Wright? Does your pastor know that he is actually very anti-Catholic? If you are unaware of this fact, try reading his New Testament translation "The Kingdom New Testament", the anti-Catholic bias in both the translation itself and the marginal notes might shock you.

The only thing I would read by NT Wright would be his "New Perspective on Paul" stuff, along with EP Sanders and James DG Dunn, Wright is one of the leading exponents of this view which holds that Protestants, starting with Martin Luther, have been misreading Paul for 500 years.

His books on the historicity of the Resurrection are good too. That's before he went off the rails.

I don't think it is so much that he went off the rails as it is that he decided to start expressing opinions he has always held but previously considered prudent to keep to himself. I think the change came when he retired as bishop and decided that he no longer had to allow restrain himself.

I once saw an interview with him where he said "The genius of Christianity is that it requires every generation to completely recreate all of theology from scratch" Huh? What? I think even by the standard of Protestantism that view is a radical discontinuity.

Father is in some heady discussion and wants to read this book in order to answer questions from actually knowing the book.

$40 + (after shipping, taxes) is more than he wants to spend on this discussion. Even the Kindle copy is $37.

What it is about this book that he needs to answer questions about? That seems like a weird need. Who is going to ask him questions about an obscure NT Wright book?

At any rate, it is far too new a book (published 2019) to be widely available used, I think your choices are to buy new or use interlibrary loan to borrow a copy.
