Famous cases of exorcisms

Post by Obi-Wan Kenobi »

1900 or later preferred. The more documentation the better.

I already know about:
  • the 1949 St. Louis exorcism (Roland Doe/Robbie Mannheim), the one underlying (very loosely) The Exorcist
  • Anneliese Michel
  • Anna Ecklund/Emma Schmidt

I don't have specific cases to name, but I am aware of a series of interviews that Capturing Christianity did with Catholic priests and exorcists, as well as with at least one layman who is also a psychiatrist and has written extensively on the topic. You may (or may not!) find these helpful:

Some of the titles are really YouTube CLICKMENOW!!!! titles. But the content is pretty interesting.

Capturing Christianity is a decent channel, there is some good philosophy on there
If you ever feel like Captain Picard yelling about how many lights there are, it is probably time to leave the thread.

I've read Dr. Gallagher's book and found it worthwhile.

I've also followed Fr. Martins' podcast.

Has anyone listened to The Exorcist Files podcast?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFOsVEpm7FE&t=52s

Over the last few months I’ve been listening to it on Spotify. I like how it is both interesting and a subtle teaching tool on the Catholic faith.

The same priest on ObiWan’s first link is highly involved in the podcast.

Imma just never going to feel that "Rites of the Church as entertainment" are cool. We had a lady call the parish, asking if she could get on the list to watch "your next exorcism".

Are making podcasts and youtube videos and such just increasing the glamour of Satan?
Trophy Dwarf, remember??

Admin note: I am sad to report the passing of this poster, a long time community member and dear friend. May the Perpetual Light shine upon Kelly (kage_ar) and through the mercy of God may she rest in peace.

Properly done, no. The key is not to make evil look glamorous or cool.
