Worst Movies that won acclaim

Post by Stella »

My vote is Birdman. It won a number of awards including Best Film at the 2015 Academy Awards. I walked away from it feeling confused and dismal. Dreadful film.

Prostitute, sex worker is a PC term created to imply that there is nothing wrong with what they are doing and it is no different from any other job.
I'm not entirely sure what you are getting at here, yes men don't fall in love with a woman they hire as a prostitute, but by the same token, even a prostitute is worthy of love. Most of them do not choose to do it, they are forced into it by circumstance, and if given the option most would leave.

How about "Worst Movie to be Considered a Classic"?

I nominate Cecil B Demille's "The Ten Commandments" (1956). I don't even know how many times I've seen this movie, every Easter since I was like, 5 years old, during its annual airing on ABC, I practically have it memorized, and yet it is an objectively terrible movie filled with some of the worst dialogue ever written.

Titanic.

That movie should have sunk like its namesake - but nooooooooooooooooo, for many months there was six tons of people talking about it.

In that category I'd put Rocky Horror Picture Show. I never understood why my peers thought it was so good.

It's not good, it's horrifically bad, and I guess that's what makes it fun.

Yeah, I don't think any of the fans of Rocky Horror are under the impression that the movie is "good", it's an ironic fandom, the Plan 9 From Outer Space

So many reminders of movies that were just plain bad. Green Berets, The Ten Commandments--dull as dishwater. Of Pretty Woman, a National Review reviewer said that "it has to be seen to be disbelieved."

Have you ever seen a movie you hated so much you wanted to punch the guy in the nose who sold you the ticket? I had that feeling after sitting through American Beauty. I hated it so much I extended my disgust toward everyone in the movie – Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening, even Thora Birch. The funny thing is I watched it at home, so instead of punching the ticket-seller, I punched the mailman instead. When I explained why I acted the way I did, he punched ME in the nose and said, “I watched it too, and I never got around to punching anybody. Thanks for reminding me.”
