A question for converts
A question for converts
What was the thing that first brought the stirring of conversion to your heart?
Re: A question for converts
I could not point to a single thing that began my search. I look back now and see so many different things along the way, from the time I was a young child.
I can tell you the thing that decided it.
Since you are relatively new, I'll provide a bit of my history (regulars, skip this, you have heard it before, but it is condensed!). My dad began singing on the "Children's Bible Hour" radio program when he was 9 years old. That began his life in full-time ministry.
After he married mom and we kids were born (I am the oldest of 4), we each joined in the ministry. I was on a platform being introduced at 6 weeks old, and by 18 months I would walk on that platform, sing "Jesus Loves Me" and quote some memorized scripture passages. My sister and I released our first album when we were 4 and 5 years old.
We traveled full time, 20 scheduled appearances per month. When I say I have been in thousands of different congregations across many denominations, I am not exaggerating.
FFWD to adulthood, married, with a kid and I was attending a wedding at St Joe's in NW Arkansas. I had never set foot in a Catholic church before that evening. When I walked into the nave, something was very, very different. It was one of the few times in my life where I felt the literal presence of God and it was palpable. Other stuff, other stuff, I came into the Church in that same place within 2 years (same parish and pastor who brought Jimmy Akin into the Church!)

Trophy Dwarf, remember??

Reading Cardinal Newman’s Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine. I had been raised to think that the Episcopal Church was, as part of the family of the Church of England, part of the one holy catholic and apostolic Church. He persuaded me that it wasn’t.
Re: A question for converts
I honestly would have thought you'd say your journey started a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… but I also have a great trust in Cardinal Newman's witness to the faith. He is a fascinating person as well.
