Bishop Strickland? Booo. Andres Serrano? Yay!!

Post by p.falk »

Well isn't that something.
Bishop Strickland gets the apostolic visitation. Gotta correct those firebrands for the faith. Geez! We've got a brotherhood without Christ that we're trying to build here.

But Andres Serrano (the 'artist' behind Piss Xrist).... aww hell, why not warmly welcome him?
Serrano claims that upon meeting Pope Francis he gave him a "mischievous smile". Some may claim "well, mischievous smiles are very subjective." Sure, but a welcome and a smile (mischievous or otherwise) regardless.
While Francis noted that some of the artists present are confrontational in their work in order to provoke people to think, he opined that their aim was to achieve harmony and beauty. The beauty of art inspires a desire for God, he said, and renders glory to him.

“You want to reveal reality also in its contradictions and in those things that it is more comfortable and convenient to keep hidden,” Francis said. “Like the biblical prophets, you confront things that at times are uncomfortable; you criticize today’s false myths and new idols, its empty talk, the ploys of consumerism, the schemes of power.”
Nothing quite like rendering glory to Him than filling a jar with piss and immersing a Crucifix into it.

Strickland "a firebrand for the faith"? Promoting anti-vaccine conspiracy theories is an essential part of the faith? Even if you agree with his far-right politics, these are not the kinds of stands a bishop should be publicly taking. Nor is it appropriate for a bishop to be constantly publicly bashing the Pope. Give me a break, if he were a leftist, you would be praising the Pope taking him down a peg.
If you ever feel like Captain Picard yelling about how many lights there are, it is probably time to leave the thread.

If he were a leftist he would not care about the faith or passing it on uncorrupted.

I mean left wing in his politics, such as if he bashing Trump and calling for open borders, vaccine mandates and other things that have nothing to do with the faith. I'm consistent, I oppose bishops speaking out about politics regardless of whether their views are on the left or the right. But p falk seems okay with it, as long as he agrees with the views expressed.

Doom, you believe all of the covid-horror fantasies you want to.
I don't particularly care one way or another.

Pope Francis gave a thumbs up to a guy who filled a jar with piss and put a Crucifix in it.

Easy up with what you think I'm okay with, Doom.

Maybe Bp Strickland was visited because of critical things he said about Pope Francis.
Think Pope Francis would give him a thumbs up if he pissed in a jar and put a carving of PF in there?

That's the point i'm upset about.
