Opening Ceremony of Paris Olympics Mocks The Last Supper
Opening Ceremony of Paris Olympics Mocks The Last Supper
Blasphemy is now part of the Opening Ceremonies of the Paris Olympics parodied The Last Supper by posing 12 "transwomen" around a table to look exactly like Leonardo DaVinci's famous painting, with a morbidly obese "woman" in a tiara in the place of Christ.
I mean, I know the majority of French people identify as either atheists or Muslims, with professing Christians making up barely 20% of the population, if even that, but really? Macron and the French Olympic Committee sat around a table at some point where tey discussed "What image do we want to present to the world?" and somewhere during that process which no doubt lasted years, one of the key points "We have to make It clear that we despise Christianity, that is what being French should mean."
I am just stunned by this.

I haven't seen the full clip to know if they meant to mock Christianity or be part of it but it's a step too far for an event like the games which should be above controversies.Doom wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 5:58 pm Blasphemy is now part of the Opening Ceremonies of the Paris Olympics parodied The Last Supper by posing 12 "transwomen" around a table to look exactly like Leonardo DaVinci's famous painting, with a morbidly obese "woman" in a tiara in the place of Christ.

Re: Opening Ceremony of Paris Olympics Mocks The Last Supper
Leonardo DaVinci's painting of The Last Supper is too well-known and too iconic for it to be an accidental reference. Replacing Jesus and the Apostles with drag queens can't possibly be considered respectful. I cannot see how this could be anything other than an intentional blasphemy, if not, what could the point possibly be?

I haven't watched the Olympics since they let pros in and started pandering to dictatorships. This is not changing my mind.
Re: Opening Ceremony of Paris Olympics Mocks The Last Supper
Technically it was only Americans who let the pros in, the rest of the world had already been using pros for decades, that was the reason why the Soviets won so many medals.

They weren't pros! They were part of the Army! They just all happened to be really good athletes! It was a complete coincidence!

I haven't watched the Olympics since '88. Just got bored with it.Obi-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 8:29 pm I haven't watched the Olympics since they let pros in and started pandering to dictatorships. This is not changing my mind.

The international outrage over the opening ceremonies has the IOC on the defensive, they are now trying to scrub all evidence of what happened from the Internet, all video of the event is being struck down as “copyright violation”, it has even been removed from the Official Olympics YouTube channel.
Within a week they will be denying it ever happened

Absolutely. I wonder where else they are doing such things? There are too many pictures out there to bury it completely.
Re: Opening Ceremony of Paris Olympics Mocks The Last Supper
Video, they are removing all the videos by claiming fake copyright violations, hundreds of YouTube channels have already been forced to remove the video. And it is a fake claim because fair use allows use of copyrighted material if the purpose is to comment on or review it.Obi-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 10:06 pm There are too many pictures out there to bury it completely.

I'm not disputing that they're taking down video; they just can't hide *all* the evidence.

I don't know about copying a video, but I have made a copy of photos, and downloaded them to my hard drive. It can be saved that way.
Re: Opening Ceremony of Paris Olympics Mocks The Last Supper
My point is that the IOC is clearly on the defensive and the attempt to scrub the video from the Internet is an attempt to silence criticism as well as an implicit expression of shame about what they have done.Obi-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Sat Jul 27, 2024 10:13 pm I'm not disputing that they're taking down video; they just can't hide *all* the evidence.

Re: Opening Ceremony of Paris Olympics Mocks The Last Supper
Is the IOC taking down the videos, or is it NBC’s doing?
Re: Opening Ceremony of Paris Olympics Mocks The Last Supper
It is the IOC, the entire video of the Opening Ceremonies has been removed from the official IOC YouTube channel, NBC doesn't have any ownership or control over that.Obi-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 8:48 am Is the IOC taking down the videos, or is it NBC’s doing?
Their defense now is that they only parodied the famous painting, not the event itself, which might be plausible if not for the extremely irreverant tone of the entire Opening Ceremonies. And yet they cannot explain what any of that nonsense had to do with French history, French culture, or the Olympics.

Re: Opening Ceremony of Paris Olympics Mocks The Last Supper
Actually, I believe it. I think they're so secularized that they never even stopped to think about the religious meaning.
Re: Opening Ceremony of Paris Olympics Mocks The Last Supper
They are so secularized I am surprised if they have even heard of Christianity. I mean we are talking about a country which, when the Cathedral of Notre Dame was burned down, the majority of the population wanted to completely de-Christianize it and rebuild it as a monument to secularism and it was actually a controversial decision to make it a cathedral again. I can only assume they had to look up in Wikipedia to figure out who this "Jesus" guy was.

Re: Opening Ceremony of Paris Olympics Mocks The Last Supper
Now the great fun is watching everyone trying to deny that it was related to the Last Supper at all. You have to ignore everything in the French media to do that, but if you really want to gaslight, it's the way to go.
