Mr Trump promises free IVF for everyone

Post by Kage_ar »

He seems dead set on changing his pro-life stand depending on which group he is courting for votes.

Not to even imagine how this could be done. If he tried to mandate it like birth control, or other ways I can think of, it would take Congress. It would set up a battle with Catholic employers.

As opppsed to Kamala Harris who promises abortions up to the moment of birth? And wants to abolish private health insurance meaning that every taxpayer will pay for every abortion? Is this preferable?

But there is a difference, if Trump wins and at least one house of Congress is Republican, let alone both, free IVF ain’t gonna happen.

If Harris wins, and has control of both houses of Congress, as is likely, free abortions for everyone is absolutely guaranteed to happen, and quickly.

What I do find interesting is the media coverage of both issues. “Trump promises free IVF but doesn’t explain how it will work” was CNN’s headline

Skepticism about how a politician will fulfil campaign promises, especially when they are very broad and vague promises is a good thing, if only the skepticism wasn’t one sided.

“Kamala Harris promises to lower prices” is the rather non skeptical headline about her scary plan to impose government price controls, something which has resulted in mass starvation every time it has been tried.
If you ever feel like Captain Picard yelling about how many lights there are, it is probably time to leave the thread.

Trump's position (which to be clear is awful) is basically a populist one. Of course it would be better if he had said nothing at all (openly coming out against IVF would be very damaging).

Anyway, every taxpayer DOES pay for abortion now in some states:

So, making wild, impossible promises is fine as long as they are impossible?

Where has that campaign promise been made? Under what program?

The campaign promises and the plan is not as generic as your line would imply

Can you show me where restraints on mergers/acquisitions and caps on price increases has resulted in mass starvation?

Agree. He seems to be changing his tune on the life issues depending on the polls or audience.

"As President, she will never allow a national abortion ban to become law. And when Congress passes a bill to restore reproductive freedom nationwide, she will sign it." Copied from Kamala Harris's website.

I don't see any mention of restrictions.

I saw an article today from some secular paper that gave an almost fawning attention to Lila Rose's recent statement that pro-lifers shouldn't vote for Trump. It was funny. The only way someone like Lila Rose is going to get positive attention from the secular people is if she comes out against Trump. I disagree with Rose's take on all of this, like I disagree with Kage's take on it. But it was just a sad thing to see the delight with which anyone coming out against Trump immediately became a darling of the left. (At least for that moment when she was possibly useful to them.)

I've not listened to Lila Rose since she defended lying for the pro-life movement.
