Why the absurd number of alternate readings?

So, there were two possible OT readings, 2 choices for Psalms, and 3 different choices for the epistle.

Why so many choices this week?
If you ever feel like Captain Picard yelling about how many lights there are, it is probably time to leave the thread.

I am not even sure which of the 3 epistle readings was read
