Dinosaurs!

Post by Tired »

Some - including me - think they are interesting, even if not a die-hard fan or something. But why did God create/allow to evolve dinosaurs, especially so distant in time from humans? For humans' pleasure in studying them, something else?

Scientist estimate that there have been 5 mass extinctions in Earth's history, and that 99% of all species have disappeared as a result. Dinosaurs are just the most fascinating, so they get our attention.

Because He felt like it? We don't know God's whole plan.

This is the same answer I have for the question: "Why did God create all those galaxies? Doesn't that make religion false?" I don't know what all plans God has going.

Some people find them really interesting as they do all the fantastic stars/galaxies in the universe. I'd but 'because He felt like it'. I'd also buy 'because He knew humans would find them interesting'.

If you look at something computer programming, sometimes you need comparatively massive amounts of code to do something fairly simple. Back when I was young and stupid and thought I wanted to work in Computer Science, I was often stunned at how much work it could be to make a simple program. The description of what the program always sounded like that would take 5-10 lines of code, I was always surprised that even those simple programs (anything more complicated than "Hello World") ended up being much longer and more complicated than I ever imagined. Look at something like a modern operating system for computers or smartphones; they are billions of lines of code long, and you need all that just to do simple stuff like displaying an icon on the screen. Maybe the universe is as big as it is because all that stuff is necessary just for life to exist on Earth,
If you ever feel like Captain Picard yelling about how many lights there are, it is probably time to leave the thread.

BTW - question generated by a (nother) reading of one of my favorite books... Theology and Sanity. ;)
